Practical ways to whiten shoes
As someone rightly said that the first thing that a person looks for is shoes. Your shoes can make an impression or break it. And if you have white shoes you need to be super cautious as they catch a lot of attraction. So it's a compulsion to keep them white. But over the period of time, they become yellow. So here in this blog, we will discuss some hacks or practical ways to whiten your shoes.
Prevention is better than cure
As the title suggests. You should not use your white shoes very often or in some places where you feel they can get very dirty. Some preventive measure one can take after buying shoes is spray painting with hydrophobic spray. These sprays form a coating around your shoes thus making them water repellent. I do not guarantee that this method will absolutely make your shoes waterproof but to some extent, they can protect.

DIY ways to whiten shoes
Here I will tell you some basic homemade ways that will to some extend about 95% will do your job.
1. Warm water and detergent
The basic way, simple solution is to wash your white shoes with some detergent and warm water. I have tried and it has worked in my case 95% of the times. It seems that I bought new shoes.
Disclaimer:- Do not apply unnecessary pressure with your brush. Be gentle.
2. Toothpaste and Brush
After washing with detergent things might have worked. But If you feel some spots are still yellow. Simple apply your toothpaste and brush it. Again Be Gentle.
3. Baking soda and Vinegar
I do not genuinely recommend you to do this. But if you feel nothing is working you can go with baking soda and vinegar. The ratio of baking soda and vinegar is 1:1. A thick paste will form and with a brush, you can clean your shoes.

4. Bleach
Again, a not recommended option. bleach is highly basic in nature. It can cause harm to your body, lungs etc. But still, if you want to experiment with that no one can stop you. So the ratio of bleach to water is 1:5 i.e one part of bleach and five parts of water. You need to make it dilute else it would ruin your shoes.

5. Washing Machine
If you want to be absolutely gentle then use a washing machine. But there is a technique. DO NOT keep them with your clothes in the washing machine neither DO NOT keep them alone in the washing machine. First, remove the laces. Then keep your both shoes in a cloth bag and then place them in the washing machine. The reason for this is if the cloth would not be there then the metallic sharp sides of the machine will ruin the texture of your shoes i.e the threads may come out in case you have canvas shoes.
6. Shoe Whitening products
This includes either using all-purpose cleaner products to clean your shoes or shoe whitener. These are temporary solutions that creates an illusion that your shoes are white. Basically, these products coat your white shoes with a white layer which temporarily does the job. In case of an emergency, one can use this method.
7. My Favourite (Hydrodripping)
If none works then forget about whitening your shoes simple colour them with different colour and give them a new look. You can directly apply any spray paint on your shoes. But first, cover the inside part or the part not to be coloured by masking tape. There is a process known as hydro dripping. Very cool thing to give a design to your shoes. Watch the below video. Disclaimer:- By now you know your shoes cannot be whitened anymore so any you can take the risk of colouring them. But If you are satisfied with 95% white shoes. DO NOT hydro drip it. But if you anyways want to colour it nobody can stop you 😎, you can do it at your own risk.
Conclusion
My only conclusion is simply washing your shoes with warm water and detergent or use the washing machine as directed above will definitely work. At max one can use toothpaste. If nothing happens colour it or simply leave it, go and buy new 😊
